O Come All Ye Faithless
The prophets of Exile offered a vision of hope to the people of Israel, while in captivity. Prophets such as Malachi, Zechariah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Joel painted visions of peace, forgiveness, and a renewed relationship with Yahweh. Their canvas was the preaching of good news from the God of Israel who desired a new relationship and offered love, peace, and forgiveness.
Luke’s Gospel was also a literary craft that illustrated Jesus as the God who came to free the captives and provide a new relationship. The Christmas song “O Come All Ye Faithful” offers hope to those seeking Jesus. In addition to this, the song also offers healing to those who have not been seeking God, who have fallen to sin, shame, and guilt, and who also need a new vision.
As we prepare to give “one less gift” for Christmas and donate to our Advent Conspiracy Collection we will see a new water well drilled in India, and women and children offered safety through a local abuse shelter. The Christmas Holiday Season is not just a time for gifts, but a time for a new view of life, our battle with commercialism, and the message of Jesus.
